  • ENAT Position Paper on the European Tourism Policy Communication COM (2010) 352

    ENAT's position paper responds to the European Commission's general call for feedback on its tourism communication published in June 2010. ENAT's comments were delivered to the Commission's Tourism Unit on 14 January 2011. ENAT proposes to strengthen the EU Tourism Strategy by including targets and actions for accessible tourism, so enhancing the competitiveness of European tourism enterprises and making Europe an accessible destination for all visitors.

  • Accessibility of People with Disabilities to the Athenian Acropolis

    The Athenian Acropolis is 160 m. high and 2500 years old, yet it had remained inaccessible to people with various types of disabilities until the organization of the Paralympics Games 2004. A specially designed elevator, which was placed on the north slope of the Hill, covers a distance of 70 m. from the foot to the top of the site.

  • Give Your Feedback on the European Commission Disability Strategy 2010-2020

    On 15th November the EU Commission published its 10 year strategy to promote equal opportunities for people with disabilities. The strategy will provide a framework for action at European level. It aims to support EU countries’ policies and actions and pursues the overall goal of implementing the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Will the strategy encourage the development of equal opportunities for participation in tourism and travel for persons with disabilities? Give us your feedback so ENAT can provide constructive criticism to the Commission on its policy initiative.

    EC Communication (COM2010/352final). Keeping Europe the world's top tourist destination is the objective of a Communication tabled by the European Commission on 30.06.2010. Will this policy document also deliver results for travellers with disabilities, seniors and other visitors who need inclusive, accessible tourism and travel possibilities in Europe?

    Access Tourism is tourism and travel for people with disabilities (PwDs), seniors, and those with temporary access needs (for example, those with short term disabilities, medical tourists etc). PwDs currently make up about 17% of NZ’s population, and a similar percentage in our major overseas tourism markets.
