    This article, based on a speech given by ENAT President, Lilian Müller, forms part of the ITB World Travel Trends Report 2012-13, commissioned by ITB Berlin from IPK International, organisers of the 20th annual World Travel Monitor Forum, held in San Giuliano Terme, near Pisa, Italy, in late October 2012.

  • Conference Notes: Addressing eAccessibility: HCITOCH Venice and XII WLO Conference Rimini, September 2012

    In order to represent and promote the eAccess+ project across Europe, two conferences were attended in September 2012. The first, the HCITOCH (Human Computer Interaction, Tourism and Heritage) took place in the old San Leonardo Church in Venice. The second, the 12th World Leisure Organization Conference was held in Rimini with 4 days of presentations by leisure academics and professionals.

  • Airlines' Policies for Carrying Wheelchair Users - Sheila King vs. Jetstar (Australia)

    In 2008 Sheila King, a wheelchair user living in Australia, was denied boarding on a Jetstar domestic flight due to the airline's "two wheelchairs only" policy. She took the airline to court claiming discrimination on grounds of disability. In this Forum item Sheila explains the course of events and the court's decision which found in favour of the airline.     The Fundación Handisport project was created in Mallorca thanks to the initiative of a group of people who wish to provide solutions to some of the problems involved in integrating people with disabilities into our society. This not-for-profit organisation, which will allocate 100% of its income to fulfilling Fundación Handisport's goals, has been created as the way to accomplish this initial generic objective.   • Let's Make Europe an Accessible Tourist Destination for All!

    The European Disability Forum has launched its 2011 "Freedom of Movement" Campaign to promote the rights of disabled people in Europe to greater accessibility and equal rights, both as citizens and tourists, within the European Union.   • A Turning Point in the Future of Accessible Travel - Commentary by Bill Forrester

    We are at a critical turning point in the future of Accessible Tourism. Over the past 20 years the advocacy concentration has been on breaking down the physical barriers that were preventing people with a disability the basic right of access to their favourite holiday destinations. 25 years ago Rick Hansen embarked on his now famous "Man in Motion" world tour and while that tour was highly successful in raising money its main purpose was to raise awareness of the capabilities of people with a disability if the physical barriers were removed. While there are still inaccessible washrooms in 34 countries access has improved to a point where today most people have almost unlimited options of accessible tourist destinations.
